San Diego Unified Port District

The San Diego Unified Port District (better known as the Port of San Diego) brings in cash from land and sea. The agency manages two marine cargo facilities, as well as a terminal used by cruise ships. Its real estate operations include leasing and managing land around the port, including almost 20 bayfront parks and commercial property. In addition, the Port of San Diego is charged with protecting San Diego Bay and adjoining tidelands from pollution. The agency, which was created in 1962, is governed by a seven-member board appointed by the city councils of San Diego and four neighboring cities.
